What to put on your SAVE-THE-DATE Cards and when should you send them?

What is the Save the Date Cards?

This is the little sister of your Formal Wedding Invitation, it is a card where you only include the date and location of your upcoming nuptial, it basically works to give your guests an idea about the weekend they should reserve for you.

What should the SAVE THE DATE CARD include?

Usually this invitation does not contain so much information, the idea is just to give advance notice of the event to keep the energy high and the guests attentive to the next steps that the bride and groom are going to take.

That is why it is also important that you give your personalized touch to the invitations because that is where the tone and style of the wedding is defined, so starting to define the vibe of the event, the colors and the etiquette is crucial from the beginning.

You must include on your Save-the-Date cards:

-Your names

The names of the couple are essential on the save the date card, you can put only the name of each member or put the first and last name of each member of the couple

  • Event date

Add the date you have decided for your wedding day, depending on the style of the invitation you can write it completely or just add the numbers.

  • Location/Place

You don’t have to put the exact address of the venue if you do not have it, but you can mention the city so your guests have an idea of logistics and transportation.

  • Guest information (who is invited on the envelope):

It is important that from the first moment you put the names of the invited people on the envelope, especially in large families where perhaps your cousin’s most recent boyfriend or an 8-year-old child that they are not on your guest list, being clear from the beginning will save you time and confusion later.

  •  Wedding Website (Optional)

You can include the link to your wedding website, this will be helpful for your guests, they can keep track of the events and details of your wedding from the beginning. So we recommend having this link ready to add to the Save-The-Date cards.

When you define the style of the wedding, make the save-the-date cards represent the wedding etiquette, whether you want casual, formal, elegant, etc. This is the first impression your guests will have about the wedding so try to make it the best.

Before sharing two examples of SAVE-THE-DATES cards, we will leave you with one last pro tip:

-Look for the calligrapher within the first 12-11 months of planning so that you can have time to define the style, colors, materials and essence of your wedding and you can order them in advance and give yourself a reasonable time.

If you add “weekend”, it may be a good option to notify your guests in advance so that they can request the weekend off for other events such as a welcome party, rehearsal, after brunch, etc.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I SEND SAVE THE DATE CARDS?

The common window to submit is 6 to 8 months before, this is the perfect time to inform about your wedding date and give your guests an idea about the general dates and location.

Our recommendation for a destination wedding is to send them 8 months in advance, so that everyone receives it and people can start organizing their trips and vacations, especially if the weekend is close to a holiday.

You don’t need to send them 12-11 months in advance, people tend to forget because they don’t know when they will have their next vacation yet, or they are just in the middle of a process and aren’t paying attention because it’s too far away.

OPTIONS FOR SENDING MY SAVE THE DATE CARDS:

There are always so many options for sending SAVE THE DATE cards to your guests, it will depend on your wedding budget and the size of your wedding.

With all the technology that exists today we have seen a trend in sending invitations virtually, there are different ways to make dynamic digital invitations and send them to your guests, you will save money on material so you will only have to invest in the design of the invitation.

The second and classic option is to have them designed, printed and sent by mail, a trend that never goes out of style and is effective. Of course, in this case the investment is higher since you must pay for design, printing and shipping, however saving dated cards is very simple depending on what you want and the budget you have, but this is definitely the best option.
